Subject: Status of STLWEBDEV

Hi,

I'm writing this message to the over 1100 members of the St. Louis Web Developers Organization mailing list (as well as to the hundreds of members on our email discussion list). If you receive this message twice, our apologies. We don't have a simple way to remove duplicates from the two lists since they are hosted on different machines.

As you may know, I was one of the co-founders of STLWEBDEV over 11 years ago, and I have continued to participate as a board member or behind-the-scenes supporter of the group throughout its history. In the past year, the group has found it challenging to recruit speakers for our monthly meetings. And when we have quality speakers lined up, attendance at meetings is sparse. We have reached a point where it seems necessary to SUSPEND MEETING on the third Tuesday of every month, as we have done since December 1996.

The board could decide to have face-to-face meetings on a quarterly (or some other) basis, but that has yet to be determined. We are releasing our option with The Koman Group to meet monthly in the One City Place auditorium. Our design awards program was to have taken place this month. However, there has not been enough interest shown to enable that to happen. So there will be NO MEETING at all this month, or in future months, unless announced through this list.

STLWEBDEV is not ceasing to exist though! Our email discussion list continues to be a useful resource to those who have joined it. If you have not joined it, we encourage you to do so. Visit: www.stlwebdev.org/resources/lists and click the "listinfo" link to join. Our website will also continue to be a place where any current news or information may be posted from time to time. So please keep www.stlwebdev.org on your favorites list.

We also encourage everyone to avail themselves of the services of the International Webmasters Association and HTML Writers Guild, which has supported us so generously over the years — especially when we have had awards ceremonies. They provided us with invaluable assistance related to the awards program. Their website, www.iwanet.org, has over 40 online courses available, in addition to other programs that you may find worthwhile.

Thank you for your interest in our group. If you would like to share any ideas with the board, you can email the board members at this address: board@stlwebdev.org — the current board will stay in place for the time being. And we'll keep you posted of any further developments.

All the best,

Allan Trick
